I made it to the semifinal last week. 4 good matches, 3 wins and 1 loss. The loss was a hard one. Was a tough match and i had a few key points where i might have been able to kill the match. I played Jovanovski in the semis and the battle was on. Jovanovski doesn’t know how it feels to miss from the basline i think… one of the most solid players i played.
I took the lead by winning the first set. Then i got a pretty good start of the second with 3 breakpoints to go 4-1. Got a tiny bit passive on the breakpoints, not a lot but enough for her to step in and win the game. Then a few games after im up 5-3… 5-4 im serving for the match and again, just not making it.
Losing the second set in a tiebreak.
Im pretty much shaking it off and i again get up in the lead in the third set… I have breakpoints to go up 5-3 but instead its 4-4 and then she makes a ridiculous good returning game to 4-5 =(
After the match im very disappointed of course…mostly disappointed caus i have this thought ”what if i had done this” and this thought is so the worst.
I know it was a tight match and it could have turned out differently but it didn’t and that is so frustrating. I really wanted that final, but ja… next time!
I finished the semi in Ningbo late in the evening almost night when i was back in the hotel. Beijing qualies starting already the day after so i had to book an early morning flight for the day after and then straight to Beijing and on court. Had a 30 min warm up and i was pretty much on.
New balls, new surface, and evening match with new lights…. It was SO DIFFICULT.
I lost in two sets and i cant say much about it. Was just not happening that day for me. The girl i played was aggressive and i was not in a good shape caus i almost didn’t feel the ball touching my racket even. I will use this week for good practice instead and really getting ready for Osaka which is my last tournament before going home.
Beijing is not so much fun otherwise. The air here is unreal bad… its so ”foggy” from bad air that today all matchcourts have been having the lights on from first match at 12.30. Can you believe it, at 12.30 in the day we have to play with lights on to see the ball good. For me that’s CRAZY!
Missing Swedish food but now also the fresh air
Tomorrow after practice, i might hit the Silkmarket. I’m really looking forward to that actually, mostly for the fun experience. It’s all crazy in there and i think being there for an hour will take away all thoughts from tennis at least for a while and i think i need that for just an afternoon!
Write you guys again from Osaka=)
In Guangzhou now and here its HOT! Was a long flight to get here but the flight is the easy part. When you land and u have to start getting used to the time change, thats when your battle begins. It was about a week ago i left New York city to come back home, and now to China almost straight away. No wonder it’s a bit dizzy feeling in the mornings
China is so different from Sweden i have to admit. And its not that i say Sweden is better or so its just very different. Different in that sense on what you are used to. I struggle with the food here, i think its not the greatest but im sure the Chinese are saying same thing about Swedish food.
Also today i came to the club and looked for a toilet. I open the door and its just a hole in the ground. First thought in my head goes ”take me out of here” =(
But ja, thats not really an option. So i hold and i went back out on the court to do my afternoon practice for the day.
On the practice there was a guy bugging us the whole time. Everytime we sat down for a drink break he was asking endless amount of questions. -Where are you from, how much do you practice, have you been here before, whats your name… And so on.
I think its nice with the people who care and so on, but when it gets too much and he even came on court to ask if he can play a few min with us i had enough =( But i got a new name though and it spells ”Narsow”. So if you wanna find my name in the draw, look out for that spelling!
Apart from the club the hotel is super, super nice. I dono how they rate hotels here but for me this is for sure 5 stars. Nice rooms, nice gym, nice pool area also. They even have hot and cold pool so if your leggies are tired after a long match… floor 24 is recovery floor.
The breakfast buffet is bigger than biggest, even thought the section of ”European breakfast” is less.
Im sure i will more than survive this week, just this holes for a toilet is a bit creapy!
Main draw starts Monday as usual. So i have a few more days to get used to everything before me, my self and I have to be on top of the game.
Excited to play match again. As i have said many times before, thats what i live for… Gameday!
Toronto was my first tournament on hardcourt for this long over sea trip. And the first result is not too much to talk loud about. I never really felt i got in to the surface before my match, was very tricky and i got stuck with my feet most of the times. It is a big change to go from clay to hard but usually im not this slow when it comes to changing surface. But an early exit means a chance for a good practice week (yes im trying to stay positive). Been practicing good and i feel better on court already, i have also been working a lot on my fitness the last few days, sprints with rubber bands for example…
Me and my coach Jeff were booking our flight to Cincinnati almost straight after my qualy final loss. When i saw im number 4 as a LL i thought i will never get in and why not just leave early and try and get a good preperation in Cinci with new courts, balls and warmer weather. But when we woke up on Monday our flight had been cancelled and we were reebooked to a later flight. So we went to the gym, had a work out, continued to the golf course for lunch and hitting some balls on the driving ranch. When we came back to the hotel from the golf we saw i was the next LL to get in. The 3 before me had already got in on the first day. And with 13 matches to still play we could not leave of course. So we had to reebook our flight again, cancel the hotel and rental car and book it again for a later day. In the end i didnt get in=( But at least i gave it an honest try. Been a bit unlucky this year caus i have been first out in Estoril, Madrid and now Toronto so sometime soon i hope it will change and i tip over. Or i just have to qualify my self, thats maybe the safest after all…
Yesterday i was practicing but also i was just sticking around waiting if someone might withdraw so i would get in. In the afternoon i took the stairs up to the player restaurant level where you can watch the Center Court matches. (The picture on the side is from where i was watching). On court playing was Kerber against Cibulkova and what a good match that was. Was actually really fun to see and even thought Kerber was up 4-1 in the third set Cibulkova found her way to come back and stole the match 7-5. Was good tennis played and fun to watch as i said and i hope next time its me playing and maybe they watching;)
Tomorrow is time for the first hit here in the warm Cincinnati. I have played this tournament twice before with good result, so i hope this year will be even better!!
Bye bye as long…
”No danger on the roof” (I know it sounds silly but thats the translation of the saying from Swedish). Thats what Sofia is saying at 9-6 in super tiebreak today…sounds very comfortable. NOOOOT! Everyone knows that in supertiebreak everything is possible and doesnt matter so much what the score is. But this time Sofia was right, we won 10-8 after a winning forehand down the line signed by Arvidsson. So what else could i say then ”yes everything under control here;)”?!
No seriously it was a fun win today. It’s a long time since both me and Sofia were in semis in doubles and playing well. So thats really fun! Seeing as i lost early in the singles i at least have something to look forward to everyday still with the doubles. Gives me some confidence and energy that i for sure need!
Singles was no success this week. It was a hard loss especially mentally. I am changing a few (more…)
All the way from Buenos Aires i have now landed in Memphis. It’s actually already a few days now that i have been here now. Practicing and preparing for the indoor hard court. Its different again to play indoor with the start and stops. Clay is more nice for your body in my opinion when you can slide and without the extreme turns…I like to play indoor…I like everything though. Indoor, outdoor, clay, plastic you name it…every surface is unique and a challenge!
Me and Jeff my coach have been up early in the mornings to get the whole practice courts alone. Twice we started at 7.30 and i can feel today that it has been worth it. Im hitting the ball i think better than i have been for a long time. So that makes it really fun to practice but (more…)
